Barbeque Galore
A backyard barbeque is perhaps the easiest and most comfortable way of cooking for friends and family during warm weather. While the menu should be simple you need to consider the taste preference of kids and for those who may not prefer to eat meat.
Take into consideration all the factors that will contribute to your guests comfort. Check the weather forecast and make sure that you have alternate facility in the event of rain. Remember that even when not predicted that rain can come very unexpectedly. So be prepared to scoop up and move to a covered shelter.
If your guests will be staying until dark make sure that there is lighting such as hurricane lamps, candles and other adequate lighting sources. Consider protection from insects that come out at night, especially mosquitoes. So, stock up on citronella candles or lamp and other insect repellant.
Plastic glasses, utensils and paper plates and napkins are entirely acceptable but if you are serving grownups on a terrace or patio off your home, real glassware, silver, china and a cloth table cloth and napkins add a sophisticated flair – even if the food is corn on the cob and ribs.
Make sure that you have enough cooking fuel. If you are using charcoal, get an extra bag. If gas that comes in the refillable cylinder, get an extra one just in case so you won’t have the misfortune of having to make a run for the store in the middle of your cooking or worst – having the store be closed and more fuel unavailable.
Long handled thongs are necessary for turning the meat on the grill, clean brushes for applying sauces and heavy duty oven mitts. Having a few extra roasting or disposable aluminum pans may also provide convenience in keeping and serving the cooked food from the grill.
Give consideration to the beverages that you will serve. Include plenty water and non-alcoholic beverages especially if the time is very hot. Keeping beverages in a cooler filled with ice is very convenient as it will allow your guests to serve themselves.
The main thing is to keep things simple so that you can spend your time interacting with your guests, rather than serving them all of the time. When people ask what they can do, give them a task so that they will feel more included. After all, the whole fun of a party is to have fun, so make sure that you are able to chime in on the fun and not have to work yourself to a frazzle.
